The phin used in coffeeshops in Vietnam for Cà phê sua dá (or Cafe sua da). The flavor obtained from these small and inexpensive brewers is incomparable. No paper filters needed, no big machine setup or cleaning needed to brew a simple cup of delicious coffee.
Please keep in mind that these filters brew a single cup of coffee in a larger traditional volume, about 1.5 ounce of intense brew, generally expected to be sipped as you watch the world pass by. These are not mug-volume or large quantity brewers. To brew more coffee see our large phin or for a larger cup add hot water after brewing.*
They can go under a variety of names eg stainless steel Vietnamese Style Coffee Filter, Phin, Stainless Steel phin, Coffee brewer, Vietnamese Phin, Drip brewer, coffee phin filter, phin filter, Vietnamese coffee filter, drip filter but whatever the name the flavour is the same - a fantastic intense brew - check out our links page to see how to use one.
*These larger phin are great for those who want a mug sized coffee - for best results do not keep filtering water through by topping up as this encourages the bitter flavours associated with over extraction. Get the intense brew first and then add hot water for the best flavour.
